Khaki — Terms of Use

Effective date: 21 September 2026

Introduction

These terms are the agreement between you and White Rock LTD — “we”, “us” — about Khaki, our habit, goal and journal app for iPhone. They are short, and they are worth two minutes of your time.

Your agreement is with us and not with Apple. Apple is not a party to these terms. We, not Apple, are solely responsible for Khaki and for everything in it.

1. What Khaki is

Khaki is a personal tracker. You tell it which habits you are keeping, which goals you are working towards, how a day went and what you want to write down; it keeps that record on your iPhone and shows it back to you. It works with no account and no network connection.

2. It is free

Khaki costs nothing. There are no in-app purchases, no subscriptions, no advertising and no paid tier — nothing is locked behind a payment, there is no trial and no premium version, and everyone gets the same app. The one thing an account adds is the optional sync described in section 6.

If that ever changes, we will publish it on this page and in the app’s release notes before it takes effect, and it will not apply to the version you already have.

3. Your licence

We grant you a personal, non-exclusive licence to use Khaki on any Apple-branded device that you own or control, as permitted by the Usage Rules set forth in the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions, including the rules on Family Sharing, volume purchasing and Legacy Contacts. The licence is not transferable, and it is a licence to use the app, not a sale of it.

Please don’t sell, rent or sublicense Khaki, and don’t copy, modify, decompile or reverse-engineer it — except where the law gives you that right whatever this clause says. Khaki itself — its code, design, text, icons and sounds — stays ours. What you write in it is yours; see section 5.

Khaki reaches you through the App Store, so Apple’s own rules for apps — the Usage Rules just mentioned — apply to your copy alongside these terms. Those rules govern what Apple delivered to you; these terms govern everything between you and us: the sync service, your content, and what each of us promises the other. Nothing here takes away a right that Apple’s rules or consumer law give you.

4. Khaki is not a medical device

Khaki records what you tell it: a habit you check off, the minutes a timer ran, a mood you picked, a note you wrote. It measures nothing about your body, it makes no diagnosis, and it offers no medical, psychological or other professional advice. Its charts and streaks are a summary of your own entries and nothing more.

Don’t use Khaki to diagnose or treat a condition, and don’t let it decide anything about treatment or medication. If something about your health worries you, speak to a qualified professional.

5. Your content

Everything you enter — habits, goals, marks, moods, journal entries — belongs to you. We claim no ownership of it, we do not sell it, we do not use it to train anything, and we do not share it with anyone outside White Rock. If you sign in, the administrators of our database can technically reach it — the privacy policy explains exactly what that means and how we treat it.

By default it never leaves your iPhone. Our privacy policy sets out exactly what is stored, where it is stored, and what changes when the optional sync in section 6 is switched on. If these terms and the privacy policy ever disagree about data, the privacy policy is the one that governs.

6. The optional work account

Khaki can sign in with a Microsoft Entra ID work account. Sign-in is restricted to White Rock LTD’s own Microsoft tenant, so in practice it is available to White Rock personnel only. Everyone else uses the app without an account: everything on the phone works the same, there is just no copy on our server.

All of this lives in Settings, and Settings has one door: open the Today screen and tap the greeting at the top.

If you do sign in:

  • your records are copied to our server, so that the same data shows up on every device you use;
  • White Rock’s rules for work accounts apply to that account as well as these terms, and the account can be withdrawn at any time;
  • you can sign out whenever you like — Today screen → tap the greeting → Settings → Account — which leaves your data where it is, on the device and on our server;
  • you can delete the account and everything stored under it at Today screen → tap the greeting → Settings → Account → “Delete account”. That erases our copy and the copy on that device, and it cannot be undone; our privacy policy explains how long a deleted copy can survive in a backup. It does not touch your Microsoft work account itself — that account is managed by White Rock IT under your employment and sits outside these terms.

7. Using Khaki responsibly

Don’t use Khaki or our sync service to break the law, to store content you have no right to store, or to interfere with the service — no probing it, no overloading it, no reaching for another person’s data, and no automated use of our API from outside the app. That is the whole list.

8. Changes, interruptions, and ending this agreement

We work on Khaki continuously. Features may change or be withdrawn, and the sync service may be unavailable — for maintenance, or permanently.

You can end this agreement at any time by deleting the app. We may suspend or end your access to the sync service if these terms are broken or if you are no longer White Rock personnel; the app itself keeps working, with your data where it has always been, on your phone.

One consequence is worth spelling out. Deleting your Khaki account requires you to be signed in, so once a work account is withdrawn that button is out of reach. If you want the copy on our server removed after that, write to appsupport@white-rock.ae — tell us the work address the account was under — and we will delete it for you.

9. Warranty — what we promise, and what we don’t

Khaki is provided as is and free of charge, without warranty of any kind. We don’t promise that it will run uninterrupted or without errors, that a reminder will always arrive — iOS decides when a local notification is delivered — or that data on a phone cannot be lost. Please keep your iPhone backups switched on. Nothing here takes away a right you have under consumer law that cannot be waived.

If Khaki nevertheless fails to conform to a warranty that applies to it, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund you the purchase price — which, for Khaki, is nothing. To the maximum extent permitted by law, that is the whole of Apple’s warranty obligation. Any other claim, loss, liability, damage, cost or expense attributable to such a failure is our responsibility and not Apple’s.

10. Limitation of liability

Khaki is a free app, and our liability is proportionate to that. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, for lost or corrupted data, or for anything arising out of your use of — or inability to use — Khaki. Nothing in these terms excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded.

11. Maintenance and support

We alone are responsible for maintaining and supporting Khaki. Apple has no obligation whatsoever to provide any maintenance or support for it. Write to us at appsupport@white-rock.ae or through our support page.

12. Claims about the app

We, not Apple, are responsible for dealing with any claim you or a third party may make about Khaki — including product liability claims, any claim that the app fails to meet a legal or regulatory requirement, and claims arising under consumer protection, privacy or similar law. We are also solely responsible for investigating, defending, settling and discharging any claim that Khaki, or your use of it, infringes someone else’s intellectual property.

13. Third-party terms

You must comply with the terms of any third-party service Khaki relies on. In practice there is one: signing in uses Microsoft Entra ID, so Microsoft’s own terms apply to that sign-in and to the work account behind it. White Rock’s IT and acceptable-use policies apply to that account too — not as third-party terms, but as part of your employment.

14. Legal compliance

By using Khaki you represent and warrant that you are not located in a country that is subject to a U.S. Government embargo or that the U.S. Government has designated as a “terrorist supporting” country, and that you are not listed on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.

15. Apple’s rights under these terms

Apple and Apple’s subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms. When you accept them, Apple has the right — and is deemed to have accepted that right — to enforce these terms against you as a third-party beneficiary.

16. Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the United Arab Emirates, and disputes about them are subject to the courts of Abu Dhabi. If you are a consumer, that choice does not take away the protection given to you by the mandatory rules of the country you live in, and it does not stop you bringing a claim in the courts there.

17. Changes to these terms

If we change these terms, we will publish the new version on this page with a new effective date, and mention anything material in the app’s release notes. Continuing to use Khaki after that date means the new version applies to you.

18. Contact

White Rock LTD, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

Questions, complaints or claims about Khaki should go to appsupport@white-rock.ae.

Legal and privacy notices: appsupport@white-rock.ae. Everything else: our support page.

19. If part of this does not hold

If a court finds any part of these terms unenforceable, the rest stays in force. These terms, together with the privacy policy, are the whole of the agreement between us about Khaki.
